The following job descriptions are provided as examples of the administrative job opportunities available with the National Park Service:
WG-07 Animal Packer and Caretaker at Big Bend National Park: This position is located in the Facility Management Division of Big Bend National Park. The incumbent packages, secures and transports food, equipment, and tools into rugged backcountry areas; maintains inventory of tack room items; keeps record logs of stock used; provides basic and advanced horsemanship and packing training to park employees; vaccinates stock and provides first aid treatment for minor injuries or wounds; exercises, waters, and feeds stock; shoes stock every 6-8 weeks; cleans stalls, troughs, hay rooms, and corrals; performs maintenance, repair, and construction on trails; prunes and mows vegetation to trail standards; performs preventive maintenance on backcountry composting toilets and makes sure they are functioning correctly; and operates light trucks to haul small loads to and from the worksite.
WG-04 Custodian at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore: Performs a full range of custodial duties in assigned areas particularly in the park's public use areas. Duties may include, but are not limited to, removing marks and stains, using chemicals and cleaning compounds, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows and carpet, emptying wastebaskets and picking up litter, cleaning, mopping and disinfecting restroom facilities, assisting in loading and unloading boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, and shoveling snow and spreading sand/salt in winter. Incumbent is required to responsibly operate a light duty motor vehicle and will be responsible for checking and maintaining proper fluid levels.
WG-06 Gardener at Presidents Park in DC: The incumbent prunes and trims trees and shrubs; transplants trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants; removes rocks, leaves , trash and debris from landscaped areas; cuts grass and trims hedges using hand and power tools associated with the trade; operates various grounds equipment such as tractors, riding and push mowers and front-end loaders; loads and unloads various materials such as gravel, soil and mulch; performs snow removal operations.
