The following job descriptions are provided as examples of the park ranger opportunities available with the National Park Service:

GS-05 Interpretive Park Ranger at Grand Canyon:  This position is located at Tusayan Museum within the Desert View of Grand Canyon National Park. The purpose of the position is to educate, interpret and inform the public about the significance and uniqueness of Grand Canyon National Park. To encourage conservation and ecologically sound practices, and educate the public about the NPS mission, and the laws, rules, and regulations developed to protect park resources and to provide for their safe and non-consumptive use. The incumbent is expected to develop a full range of interpretive presentations including guided walks, talks, and demonstrations.

GS-07 Interpretive Park Ranger at Everglades:  This position is located within the Division of Interpretation and Visitor Services at Everglades National Park, Pine Island District. The four National Parks in south Florida: Everglades, Biscayne, Dry Tortugas and Big Cypress National Preserve, operate adjacent to dense urban development and a population of nearly six million people who have a direct impact on park resources.   This unique situation requires staff to communicate complex and controversial natural resource issues to the non-visiting public.   The Ranger communicates natural history information, cultural information, complex ecological issues, and policy issues to community organizations, civic groups, schools and park partners.   The purpose of this position is to engage communities adjacent to the parks to protect park resources.

GS-05/07 Law Enforcement Park Ranger in Boston, MA:  The incumbent serves as a Law Enforcement Commissioned Park Ranger responsible for performing law enforcement duties, including protection of life and property, detection, investigation, apprehension, detention, and prosecution under provisions of applicable laws, rules and regulations enacted to insure protection and safe use of National Park resources. Educates, interprets and informs visitors about the significance of park resources, resource conservation and sound park use practices.
