The following job descriptions are provided as examples of the VUA opportunities available with the National Park Service:

GS-04 Visitor Use Assistant at Everglades:  Incumbent serves as a front-line representative of the agency and in many instances the first and only contact the visiting public has. Incumbent works at an entrance station, visitor center, campground, or other visitor contact station.   Incumbent is responsible for providing answers to recurring visitor questions concerning the specific park area.   Explains the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession-operated facilities and services, and campground availability; distributes maps, brochures, and other printed materials; provides directions and routes of travel through the park; and informs visitors of potential safety hazards.

GS-06/07 Supervisory Visitor Use Assistant at Grand Teton:  The incumbent supervises and directs a work group responsible for fee collection at an entrance station.  Hires subordinate staff (both seasonal and permanent) and evaluates employee performance and operation.  Plans, schedules and assigns work to subordinate staff and provides technical and policy direction.  Sets work unit goals and priorities and motivates employees to increase and maintain productivity; acts as mentor for subordinate staff; provides for employee training and developmental needs for collection and accounting of fees, disseminates information and provides resource orientation to visitors; resolves employee complaints; and instructs employees on safety requirements of job assignments.
